Why Not From Grade School To Grad School Engaged In Teaching Multiple Intelligences To Their Students?!

About Multiple Intelligences (MI), in 2021 I wrote about Cahbriba Alternative School, the MI school founded by Doc Cielito & Pilar Habito in Los Baños, Laguna in 1999. They got the genius idea from Harvard University itself, from psychology professor Howard Gardner. Aside from sending our children to Cahbriba (Neenah, Edwin, Ela), I helped raise Cahbriba funds by volunterring to package a proposal I called simply “Y2K” – it was catchy & dangerous as 1999 was the year when experts were predicting that the millineum bug “Y2K” would cause a digital world crash, destroying all wealth. Hah! The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funded Cahbriba’s Y2K for PhP1 million. Thanks, CIDA!

Here’s the MI list submitted to CIDA:

1. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (“Body Smart”)
2. Creative Intelligence (“Thinking Smart”), added by FAH
3. Existential Intelligence (“Life Smart”)
4. Interpersonal Intelligence (“People Smart”)
5. Intrapersonal Intelligence (“Self Smart”)
6. Mathematical-Logical Intelligence (“Number/Reasoning Smart”)
7. Musical Intelligence (“Music Smart”)
8. Naturalist Intelligence (“Nature Smart”)
9. Spatial Intelligence (“Image Smart”)
10. Verbal-Linguistic Intelligence (“Word Smart”).

About MI, Britannica says (“Multiple Intelligences,” britannica.com):

At its core, (MI) is the proposition that individuals have the potential to develop a combination of eight separate intelligences… That proposition is grounded on Gardner’s assertion that an individual’s cognitive capacity cannot be represented adequately in a single measurement, such as an IQ score.

8 is now 10 intelligences; my “mIQ” emphasizes the multiples of IQs.

In my 2021 article “Youth Education – Nourishing Multiple Intelligences Into Multiple Entrepreneurs” (07 June 2021, Communication For Development, blogspot.com), I wrote:

Joei Villarama, proprietor of Abot Tala, a non-traditional school for youth in Manila, is having a difficult time teaching her own children. … I saw on Facebook Ms Joei’s sharing, “Homeschooling Is Not Easy.” She says:

My husband and I don’t see eye to eye on certain things about homeschooling but we both want what’s best for our children even if we may have different methods… Dealing with differences is a part of life.

“Homeschooling is not easy.” Because current teaching methods are difficult! “Dealing with differences is a part of life.” Differences, here’s Ms Joei’s clue to excellent education – MI!

This is a teacher speaking, Civil Service Professional, 1964, passing the very first Teacher’s Exam in the Philippines. 80.6%, sans reviewers.

My advice to Ms Joei was that MI was the best way to inject an exciting voyage of discovery for every learner, no exceptions.

Like: We can use MI to encourage the youth to discover the Undiscovered Territory of Agriculture (UTA). Examples of UTA:

Bodily-kinesthetic– how to reduce farming motions.
Existential – people’s motivations.
Interpersonal – how successful farmers relate with others.
Intrapersonal – what counter-productive habits people have.
Musical – what music inspires which animals.
Naturalist – how nature can help.
Linguistic – how to understand science and put it into practice.
Logical-Mathematical –  what makes an enterprise successful by the numbers.
Spatial –  how art can move farmers to succeed.

As you can see and feel, MI makes both teaching and learning exciting – isn’t that doubly beautiful?!@517
